National Horticulture Board (NHB) was carried out by the government of India in the year 1984 under the society of Registration Act in the year 1860 with it headquarter at Gurugram. The main motto is to help in managing and coordinating the processing and production of fruits and vegetables.
The main purpose of the National Horticulture Board NHB is to develop the modern post-harvest management and integral parts of areas of expansion projects for common facilities for clusters of projects.
“Board of Directors” is the head of the NHB Management body which is jointly working with the Hon’ble Union Agriculture Minister and Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Other Members of the Board. Objectives Of NHB
- NHB provides training to farmers with that farmers will be able to learn new agronomy practices and the latest technologies related to agriculture.
- NHB helps in developing of Post- harvest Management Infrastructure.
- National Horticulture Board, NHB helps to assist R&D programs to develop the products for specific varieties with the latest technologies of horticulture.
- NHB helps in the promotion of farm mechanization in Horticulture through demonstration.
- NHB helps in carrying out studies and surveys to identify short- and long-term strategies for the development of horticulture. It includes services like technical, advisory, and consultancy.
- To create opportunities for employment generation for skilled as well as unskilled persons.
Various Schemes of NHB
Commercial Horticulture through Production and Post-Harvest Management of Horticulture Crops.
- Commercial Horticulture Development in open field conditions
Under this scheme, NHB provides 40-50% of subsidy on open-field project cost up to 30-37 lac per project that includes planting material, plantation, irrigation, fertigation, mechanization, precision farming, GAP etc.
- Commercial Horticulture Development in a protected cover
Under this scheme, National Horticulture Board provides up to 50% subsidy on the total project cost with max. limit up to Rs 56.00 lakh per project for protected cover farming like Greenhouses Farming, Shade Net House, Plastic Tunnel, Anti bird/ hail nets & cost of planting material, etc
- Integrated Post Harvest Management projects
NHB also provides project subsidies on Integrated Post Harvest Management projects relating to Pack House, Ripening Chamber, Refer Van, Retail Outlets, Pre-cooling unit, Primary processing, etc. for eligible crops like Fruits, Vegetables, Flowers, Aromatic plants, and Cashew.
All types of projects have different standards of specification for project development. farmers have to follow all requirements to get the subsidies. Farmer can apply online for these types of projects on its official website. NHB requires land documents, KYCs, and eligibility for a loan on the project. After check, all required documents NHB gives permission for project work via work order. Farmers can set up and install projects with the help of protected farming structure manufacturers and service provider companies with all specific technical standards of the project. After completion of the project, the NHB officer will visit the project and release a subsidy to the farmer for that project.
